it’s clear that the outlines have been enhanced along with various aspects of the figures and tree

by the time he commissioned Gainsborough to paint this piece

He exhibited widely during his lifetime including at Salon des Indépendants between 1890 and 1893 and at the Salon National between 1899 and 1913

Note how the light falls on the apple in the lower left - quite sublime

It seems plausible that this coastline is somewhere in Italy but the Corbets did travel widely including to North Africa
