It fastens with a plastic buckle. It has five pockets in total, two one each side plus a hidden one on the back of one of the sides. Each side has a zippered section measuring 8 x 6" Underneath the zip section is a pocket a flap with a magnet button on it and also a zipper, and measures 6 x 6. 5 x 1. 3".
