In the 16th century, the design was immensely popular amongst the German Landsknecht and the Scottish and Irish Galloglass. This style of aventail is also known as a Bishop's Mantle. It is fitted with leather straps and replica buckles. The lower side of the collar is constructed from brass chainmail. The aventail is crafted from butted rings in a 1: 4 pattern.
